Stand Out: 5 Steps to get you started!

Welcome Back to My Blog

The more I think Fashion! It's Not....

Hi, everyone! My name is Julie, and I am a seasoned Image Consultant with over two decades of experience. My expertise lies in helping individuals and service industry leaders improve their image and professional brand through consulting and workshops.

Looking back forty plus years later, (OH MY I'M OLD) it's incredible to see how far I've come since opening a salon as a teenager, winning a beauty pageant, and becoming the first International Certified Image Consultant in Louisiana through the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI) I realized I have accomplished everything I set out to do and more.

Just wondering was it the fashion or the way I showed up.

Fun fact: You make the clothes; the clothes don't make you!

Fashion vs Showing Up

The 80's was filled with lots of color and everything was big and bold. We were all on a high with the UK music and style. You have to admit it, the 80's had the best music. You can say it, I

'm not going to tell your kids. MTV stayed in rotation, and we mimicked every move and style. Most of all their on-air persona. Direct, energic and fun. MTV really gathered our attention, leaving us wanting more.

The entrance, the fashion, the stance and the engagement. That's presence! The original influencer.

I remember walking around in my Cindi Lauper gear. I was everything and a bag of chips. Black girl with a punk rock hair style, that was unheard of in New Orleans. Different colors in my hair, ballerina skirt and decorative stockings, you couldn't tell me anything. My presence generated stares, that created inquiring minds, that began conversations, which allowed me to discuss my beauty services. By conversing with the inquiring minds, they got a sense of who I was.

It was my time to show up and show out! My expertise, communication skills, where I shopped, my personality and my ability to help them. All of this formed my brand to reach my desired client. I made my presence known. Mission accomplished; I had made an impact!

We are living in a digital age, where influencers have taken over. We don't know them, and they don't know us, but we follow. We follow because we think they know us better or more than we know ourselves. We have to do this, wear this, behave this way, eat here, don't travel there, my head is spinning!!!!

If you think about it, is that really who you want to be? #Turnoffthenoise Every day you show up, you represent yourself. Your personal brand is just that, PERSONAL.

You define your brand; the brand does not define you. Make your presence known authentically.

Determine what makes you, you. Accent, Hair, Color, Walk, Family, Clothing, Friends, Locations, Career and Hobbies. This combination establishes your image, which is your personal brand. Decide how you want to be remembered. Get rid of what is no longer in alignment of who you are or who you want to become. Action plans help with a achieving your ultimate goal. Even though, I do not believe in vision boards it may help you. I keep my visions in my head. Timing is a major factor in getting this done. It is imperative to have deadline and a by when date. Take a day to think about it and write it down. Consistency solidifies your true image. If it's not consistent, it's not your brand.

Don't be common.

I was never a follower, always a leader. I want to be a better version of the day before. You know, sprinkle a little sugar, add some spice. We speak on our purpose; I feel my purpose is to push you to a greater you. Life is way too short to waste it on a pretender. Check out how I got a jumpstart on my healthy lifestyle.
